Welcome to my home page!
The URL should give it away: I'm Zach Musgrave. I'm a senior at Clemson University. I will graduate in May 2011 with two degrees: a B.S. in Computer Science from the School of Computing, and a B.A. in English - Writing and Publication Studies from the Department of English.
I like to write both text and code; I try to do so clearly, succinctly, and quickly. I also like language: it influences every aspect of daily life, whether the particular grammar in question is simple (RISC assembly, for example) or context-free (English, among many others.) Maybe that explains my unusual combination of degrees. If you want to know more, I'd be happy to ramble on for hours about it all.
The following are some areas of research that interest me:
- Parallelization of complex algorithms via novel, pipeline-structured frameworks and language constructs
- Distributed knowledge bases and automated reasoning tools
- Systems for large-scale human collaboration involving complex data
At the moment, I am applying to Ph.D. programs in computer science involving the above areas; watch this space for updates on my search for the perfect program!
Mass media appeals to me as well: I worked at The Tiger, Clemson's student newspaper, for three semesters early in my college career as an editor and features writer. These days, I spend most of my free time as General Manager of WSBF-FM 88.1, Clemson's student-run independent radio station. Before becoming GM, I wrote lots of code as the station's resident Computer Engineerclick on over to develop to see examples of my work. And of course, I spin tunes on airyou can catch the Bank Holiday Monday, my show focusing on new roots and folk rock, Mondays from 9 to 11 p.m. during the academic term.
